Narsingdi, April 13, 2025 (BSS) -- Three men were arrested in connection with the killing of two brothers in Ghorashal Municipal under Palash upazila of the district.
RAB-11(Narsingdi) and RAB (Faridpur) in a joint operation on Saturday night detained them from Faridpur.
The arrestees were Badal Mia (45) and Sifat Mia (20), sons of Lal Mia, and Wahed Mia (60), son of Amir Hossain, residents of the Bhagdhi area in Palash upazila, confirmed Major Sadman Alam, company commander of RAB-11.
Among them, Badal and Sifat were named in the First Information Report (FIR). They were handed over to the police and later sent to jail following court orders.
"With the assistance of RAB-10 in Faridpur, we apprehended the three accused on Saturday night," said Major Alam.
The incident dates back to the early hours of Eid day, when two young men allegedly attempted to steal an auto-rickshaw battery in the Kuruitoli area of Bhagdhi. Locals caught one of them, identified as Himel, while the other managed to flee. Himel was severely beaten by the locals and handed over to the police.
Later that day, Raqib (25), Sakib (20), and others visited the area to inquire about the incident. During this visit, they reportedly assaulted a local auto-rickshaw driver.
Later in the evening, a group of 30-35 youths returned to Kuruitoli, leading to a violent clash with locals. Allegedly, under the leadership of a local named Pavel, announcements were made via mosque loudspeakers claiming that dacoits had entered the area. Residents then mobilized with sticks and traditional weapons, detaining and beating the group.
Both brothers sustained severe injuries and were taken to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital, where Sakib was declared dead. Raqib was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, but died on the way.
On April 3, the victims' mother, Rabea Khatun, filed a case with Palash Police Station naming 25 individuals. A total of six people have been detained in connection with the incident.
