RAJSHAHI, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - Speakers at a meeting here today stressed the roles of journalists to protect rights of internal migrant workers across the country.
They said the number of internal migrant workers in urban and rural areas is increasing due to various reasons, including the adverse impact of climate change and lack of employment.
They came up with the observation at a view-exchange meeting with journalists on internal migrants' social security rights, organized by Association for Community Development (ACD) at a hotel in Rajshahi city.
Journalists Abul Kalam Azad, ABM Kamruzzaman Bakul, Sharif Sumon, Muhammad Anisuzzaman, Ahsan Habib Apu, Moudud Rana, Enayet Karim and Kazi Nazmul Islam, among others, addressed the meeting.
The programme was held as a part of ACD's project titled "Fostering Resilience and Community Engagement for Internal Migrant Workers and Families".
Project coordinator Abdul Motin presented the keynote paper and coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul moderated it.
The meeting pledged to build resilience of internal migrants and enhance their livelihoods and security.
The project aimed at protecting around 3,000 households from the adverse impacts of climate change in four upazilas of Rajshahi and Joypurhat districts and Chattogram City Corporation and creating suitable environment for them.
