Partner Project, incentives help farmers getting bumper pulse production

RANGPUR, April 19, 2025 (BSS) - After getting assistance from the Partner 
Project and cost-free seeds and fertilisers as incentives from the interim 
government, farmers achieved bumper pulse production in Bhurungamari upazila 
of Kurigram this season.
 
This season, the bumper yield of lentil due to the Partner Project that is 
being implemented to enhance pulse production and incentives has brought 
smiles to the faces of the project beneficiary farmers in the upazila.
 
This time, farmers showed their more interest in cultivating pulses. In 
addition, many of the farmers cultivated lentils to meet their own demand for 
pulses throughout the year. They are happy to get good prices and be able to 
save seeds. 
 
In the first phase, the Upazila Department of Agricultural Extension 
implemented the project to produce eight varieties of pulses on 12 bighas of 
land of farmers in two unions of Paikerchhara and Shilkhuri in the upazila. 
 
In addition, with the Partner Project assistance and government incentives 
provided through the Upazila Agricultural Office, lentils have been 
cultivated on about 110 hectares of land in ten unions of the upazila. 
 
To increase the interest of farmers in pulse production, free pulse seeds and 
fertilizers were distributed among the farmers. 
 
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, Partner Field School (PFS) was 
conducted with 25 farmers to improve their skills in pulse crop production. 
 
At the end of ten sessions, each farmer was given a certificate and an 
honorarium. 
 
Farmers Hasanuzzaman, Sultan Mia, Faridul Islam of Paikerchhara union said, 
training, free fertilizer and seeds, seed treatment fungicides, inter-
planting money, seed storage containers, were provided to them at the right 
time. 

"As a result, the production has also been quite good. We are very happy to 
get a good yield," said farmer Hasanuzzaman. 
 
Farmers Mofazzal Hossain, Jabed Ali of Shilkhuri union said the Upazila 
Agriculture Office had given them high-quality drums for seed storage free of 
cost. 
 
"We have kept enough seeds in the drums. We hope to sow more lentils seeds to 
expand its cultivation in the future," said farmer Mofazzal Hossain. 

The farmers also said that pulse cultivation is also a profitable crop. So, 
they are now also leaning towards pulse cultivation along with other crops. 
 
Bhurungamari Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Md Abdul Jabbar said, 
all possible cooperation, including assistance under the Partner Project and 
incentives, pulse seeds and fertilizers, were delivered to the farmers at the 
right time. 
 
"Farmers were trained in various ways to get more yield. As a result, no 
problems arose. I was also happy to see the satisfaction of the farmers in 
pulse production," Abdul Jabbar added.
