SYLHET, April 23, 2025 (BSS)- Mukul Chowdhury (Manjurul Karim Chowdhury), a
renowned poet and a retired officer of the Islamic Foundation, passed away in
the early hours of today.
The 67-year-old breathed his last around 1:30am at National Heart Foundation
in Sylhet.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the Noyasarak Jam-e-Mosque in the city after
Zohr prayers. Later, he was buried at the Manik Pir (R.) graveyard.
Earlier, the body of poet Mukul Chowdhury has been kept at his beloved
institution, the century-old traditional Sylhet Kendriya Muslim Sahitya
Sangsad (Sylhet Central Muslim Literary Society), so that people of all
strata can pay their last tributes to him.
He was a dedicated poet and writer who had been writing relentlessly since
the mid-seventies of the last century. Besides poetry, he was also a
powerful, fluent, and witty figure in prose literature.
Born on August 22, 1958 in the Khalopar village of Lalabazar union under
South Surma upazila of the district, Mukul Chowdhury published his first book
of poetry "Osposto Bondar" in 1991.
In recognition of his contribution to Bangla literature, he won various
Awards. Manjurul Karim Chowdhury [real name of the poet] also received other
accolades for his poetry.
