CHATTOGRAM, April 24, 2025 (BSS)- A stone-laden bulkhead sank due to strong 
waves in hostile weather at Sandwip Channel at the estuary of the Bay of 
Bengal this morning.

A Sandwip-bound passenger service boat rescued seven sailors alive, who were 
floated towards the Sandwip Channel with life jackets after the accident, 
around 7:30 am today, sources said. 

They were brought by a passenger boat on the Kumira-Guptachara ghat and 
handed over to the authority, Kumira Naval Police In-charge Md. Wali Uddin 
Akbar told journalists.
 
All rescued sailors hailed from Kishoreganj district, the sources said, 
adding that the rescued oarsmen were provided with primary treatment and 
handed over to the concerned authority.

A rescued sailor said the stone-laden bulkhead ship left here for Dhaka at 4 
am on Thursday, when it approached the red buoy light, the ship sank due to 
strong waves in hostile weather.

Munsur Majhi, the driver of the Kumira Ghat service route, said he saw some 
people floating in the middle of the sea at 7 am, when he was going to 
Sandwip with passengers from Chattogram. 

"I quickly took the boat to them and rescued seven people," he added.
