KHULNA, April 25, 2025 (BSS) - On the occasion of the 143rd anniversary of the establishment of Khulna district, "Khulna Day" was observed with colourful programmes today.

The Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee organised these programmes.

Khulna was officially declared a district on April 25, 1882, through a gazette notification. Since then, the Greater Khulna Development Struggle Coordination Committee has been observing this day annually with diverse programmes.

The day's programmes began at 10 am with a gathering at Shibbari intersection in the city, featuring recitation from the Holy Quran, rendition of the national anthem, and the release of pigeons, balloons, and festoons as symbols of peace.

Khulna Divisional Commissioner and Administrator of Khulna City Corporation, Feroz Sarkar, inaugurated the programmes as the chief guest.
Following the inauguration, a vibrant procession paraded through various streets of the city and concluded at the same location.

A traditional "Mejhbani" feast and cultural performances were held throughout the day.

During the opening ceremony, speakers emphasised the need for united efforts beyond political divisions for the overall development of Khulna.
They called for the preservation of the region's rich history and heritage and demanded the immediate fulfillment of long-pending development promises.

A large number of people from all walks of life and top administrative officials, political leaders, social and cultural organizations, professionals, civic leaders attended the daylong events.

The GKDACC president Sheikh Ashraf Uz Zaman presided over the gathering, while its general secretary, advocate Sheikh Hafizur Rahman, conducted it.

DIG of Khulna Range Police Rezaul Haque, Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Zulfikar Ali Haider, Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saiful Islam, leaders of BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, CPB, Workers Party, Islami Andolon, Ganosamhati Andolon, and other distinguished personalities were present.
