RANGPUR, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the accused on charges of forcibly raping a girl of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur from Azimpur area in Dhaka city on Friday.

The detainee has been identified as Md Shimul Mia, 27, son of Md Bablu Mia of Pirganj Thana Para area under Pirganj Police Station in Rangpur district, a press release said today.

On a tip-off, a joint operational team of RAB-13's Crime Prevention Specialised Company (CPSC) in Rangpur and RAB-10's CPSC in Lalbag at Dhaka in a raid arrested the accused from the Azimpur area in Dhaka city.

Earlier, the accused had been proposing love to the victim from the same area. When the victim did not agree to this proposal, he threatened the victim and her family with great harm, a press release said. 

On April 4, 2025, at 10.30 am, the accused tactfully took the victim from Gourishwerpur Bazar under Pirganj Police Station and forcibly raped her against her will by tempting her with marriage.

Subsequently, the victim filed a rape case with Pirganj Police Station in this connection on April 5, 2025. 

The incident created a sensation in the area and came to the attention of the CPSC of RAB-13 and the CPSC of RAB-10.
 
Enhancing intelligence activities, the elite force confirmed the location of the accused and arrested him from the Azimpur area of Dhaka city at 10.30 am on Friday.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the Pirganj Police Station for further legal action, the press release added.
