TANGAIL, April 26, 2025 (BSS) - The traditional 'Jamai Mela' (fair for sons-in-law) has started with much enthusiasm in Sadar upazila of the district on Friday.

The three-day fair will continue until April 27, said Anisur Rahman, member secretary of the fair organizing committee.

He added all kinds of preparations have been made to make the fair successful.

People of Rasulpur village arrange the three-day-long fair on the 11th day of the Bangla month of Baishakh on Basirannesa High School premises every year.

The tradition sees married women from Rasulpur and surrounding villages visiting their paternal homes with their husbands and children, creating a joyous reunion with loved ones.

On the day of the fair, the mothers-in-law give money to their son-in-law as gift. With that money, the son-in-laws go to the market and brings food to in-law houses. For this reason, the fair is known as the 'Jamai Mela'.

Like the previous years, a large number of people, especially the sons-in-law of Rasulpur and adjacent 30 villages, gathered at the venue.

Besides, many hawkers and vendors from different places across the country also came to the fair and set up small and large shops to sell toys, cosmetics, wooden furniture and varieties of food and sweets.
