CHATTOGRAM, April 26, 2025 (BSS)-A five-year-old child was killed and seven
including the child’s parents were injured after a pickup van overturned
following a collision with a passenger bus at Bashbaria under Sitakunda
upazila of the district around 6 am today.

The deceased child was identified as Jakia Islam, 5. The injured include her
father Jamal Uddin, 38, mother Laiju Begum, 30, brother Md Faisal, 14,
grandmother Selina Begum, 60, aunt Rima Akhter, 28, cousin Sumaiya Akhter, 5,
and the pickup van driver Md Raihan, 24.

Confirming the matter Assistant Sub-Inspector Mintu Mia of Highway Police
said the deceased, Jakia Islam, was travelling with her family on the back of
the pickup van.  

Jamal Uddin, originally came from Bhola, had recently secured employment at a
private company in Chattogram city and was relocating with his family and
belongings in the pickup van.

Police recovered the damaged pickup van but the bus driver fled the scene
following the accident, he said.

Mintu Mia said a passenger bus was trying to overtake the pickup van in
Bashbaria area suddenly the bus struck the rear of the vehicle. As a result,
the van lost control and overturned, left Jakia died on the spot.

Having information, fire service personnel reached spot and rescued the
victims.

Legal action will be taken regarding the incident, added the police official.
