RANGPUR, April 29, 2025 (BSS) - The Hall Provost Body has cancelled residency of four students of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR), accused in the murder of Shaheed Abu Sayeed during the July uprising.
Their residency was cancelled through a notification signed by the university's Hall Provost Body on Monday.
All the expelled students are students of the 2020-21 academic sessions.
The four students are: Manik Chandra Sen, and SM Labu Islam of the Department of Political Science, Md. Mehedi Hasan Miraj of the Department of History and Archaeology, and Sejan Ahmed alias Arif of the Department of Management Studies.
The notification said that in light of the decisions of the university's 108th Syndicate meeting and the Disciplinary Board held on March 20 regarding the students accused in the murder of Abu Sayeed and the Hall Provost Body meeting, the residency of these four students has been cancelled.
Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall Provost Professor Dr Md Kamruzzaman said the four students accused in the Shaheed Abu Sayeed murder have been expelled from the hall in accordance with the decision of the Disciplinary Board, Syndicate and Hall Provost Body.
"Besides, according to the policy of Shaheed Mukhtar Elahi Hall-2015, if any student is absent for more than three months, his/her seat will be automatically cancelled," he added.
