CHATTOGRAM, Dec 12, 2021 (BSS) - A Chattogram court in a verdict here on
Sunday awarded capital punishment to a husband on charges of killing his wife
in the city's Patenga area in 2014.

  The Judge of Chattogram Seventh additional district and session court
Ferdouse Ara pronounced the verdict convicting Riaz Hossain, son of Ajmal
Khalifa, hailed from Bukhaitala area of Mathbaria thana in Pirojpur district.

  The court also fined Taka 50 thousand to the convicted person, in default,
he will have to suffer two years more in jail, said Advocate Khandoker Ariful
Alam.

  The prosecution story, in brief, is that the accused strangulated to death
his wife Ruma Begum over a family feud on the night of January 9, 2014 in
Khalpar area of the city's Patenga thana.

   Later, victim's father Sirajul Haque filed a case against Riaz Hossain,
the accused, with Patenga thana on March 3, 2014 for killing his daughter
Ruma.

   Police submitted chargesheet on May 27, 2014 while the judge framed
charges against him on July 10 in 2016.

  The court today after examining six prosecution witnesses awarded the
judgement in presence of the convict Riaz Hossain.
