JAMALPUR, Dec 25, 2021 (BSS) - The elections to 16 Union Parishad (UP) in
three Upazilas of the district will be held tomorrow as part of the
countrywide fourth phase UP polls.
The election commission has already completed all preparations to hold the
voting in 16 UP of Bakshiganj, Madarganj and Sarishabari Upazila amid
peaceful atmosphere.
Election office sources said during the voting, Ansar, Police, Rapid
Action Battalion (RAB) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will be
deployed to maintain the law and order.
The elections will be held in Bakshigaj Sadar and Battazor Union Parishads
in Bakshiganj Upazila, Charpakerdaha, Adarvita, Zorkhali, Balizuri, Sidhuli,
Gunaritola and Koroichara unions in Madarganj Upazila and Pogaldigha,
Bhatara, Mahadan, Awna, Doail, Satpoya and Kamrabad unions in Sarishabari
Upazila.
Chairman candidates in Charpakerdaha, Adarvita, Zorkhali, and Balizuri
unions in Madarganj Upazila were elected unopposed so the polling will be
held only in members and women member (reserved) posts there.
The election office said a total of 13 candidates are contesting two
chairmen posts in Bakshiganj Upazila while 7 candidates vying for 3 chairmen
posts in Madarganj Upazila and 31 candidates for 7 chairmen posts in
Sarishabari Upazila.
Besides, 197 candidates for women reserved member posts and 591 candidates
for member posts are vying in 16 union Parishad polls in the three Upazilas.
A total of 27170 voters will cast their votes at 77 booths in 18 centers of
Bakshiganj Upazila.
Apart from this, 1,74,246 voters will franchise their voting rights at 469
booths in 73 centers of Madarganj and 2,03,211 voters will cast votes at 521
booths in 92 centers of Sarishabari.
The voting will be held from 8 am to 4 pm without any break through ballot
papers, the election office added.
