RANGPUR, Dec 30, 2021 (BSS) – Rangpur division recorded 8.05 percent Covid-19 positivity rate as 14 fresh cases were reported after testing 174 new samples at the two laboratories on Thursday.
Health officials said the positivity rate marked a sudden rise today in the division where the pandemic situation continued to improve almost during the last four months.
Earlier, the daily Covid-19 positivity rates were 2.39 percent on Wednesday, 1.32 percent on Tuesday, 3.01 percent on Monday, 6.34 on Sunday, 6.06 percent on Saturday, and 3.00 percent on Friday last in the division.
Among the 14 new patients, 10 were reported positive after testing 80 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) at the positivity rate of 12.50 percent today.
“The 10 new patients include seven from Rangpur, two from Gaibandha, and one from Kurigram districts,” Principal of RpMC Professor Dr AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS at 6:50 pm.
On the other hand, four more new patients were reported after diagnosing 94 samples at the Covid-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur at the daily positivity rate of 4.26 percent today.
“The four new patients include one from Dinajpur and three from Panchagarh districts,” said Principal of MARMC Professor Dr Syed Nazir Hossain said.
Talking to BSS tonight, Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Md Zakirul Islam said the total number of Covid-19 patients rose to 55,754 as 14 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.
“The district-wise break up of total 55,754 patients include 12,562 of Rangpur, 3,835 Panchagarh, 4,463 of Nilphamari, 2,763 of Lalmonirhat, 4,649 of Kurigram, 7,701 of Thakurgaon, 14,903 of Dinajpur and 4,878 of Gaibandha in the division,” he said.
