CHATTOGRAM, Jan 10, 2022 (BSS)- Chattogram city, north and south district
units of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) and its front organisations celebrated
the homecoming day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
in a befitting manner on Monday.

programmes including placing wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait at all party
offices, holding discussion meetings, milad and doa mahfils.
Leaders of different political parties including AL and Chhatra League
brought out colourful rallies, placed wreaths at the portrait of the Father
of the Nation at the city AL office at Darul Fazal market in the city and
arranged a discussion on Bangabandhu.
Besides, AL leaders joined a discussion at city's Theater Institute Hall
this afternoon to mark the day.
Acting President of Chattogram city AL Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over
the function while former city mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, AL leaders Khurshed
Alam Sujan, Noyom Uddin Chowdhury, Altaf Hossain Bacchu, Advocate Iftekher
Saimul Chowdhury, Kazi Altaf Hossain, Nur Mohammad Nuru and Noman Al Mahmud
addressed the function, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, AJM Nasir said the independence of Bangladesh
would have not got perfection if Bangabandhu had not returned home from
Pakistani jail.
"When the then government led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman started
relentless efforts to fulfill the expectations of the people of newly
liberated country, the vested quarter brutally killed him to destroy his
dream to build Sonar Bangla," the former city mayor said.
Earlier, the procession ended at the same place after parading different
important city streets. Meanwhile, different units of Bangladesh Chhatra
League brought out several processions in different areas of the city to mark
the day.
Taking part in the discussion, Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury put maximum emphasis
on disseminating true national history of the Liberation War among the
members of the new generations for building 'Sonar Bangla' as was dreamt by
Father of the Nation.
The building of Bangabandhu's Sonar Bangla is yet to be finished even
after 50 years of Independence and the unfinished task must be completed
through united efforts of all people including the young generation, he said.
Chattogram north and south district Awami League units also organised
separate discussion meetings at their respective party offices in the city
this evening.
The AL leaders also placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation
at their respective party offices led by their presidents MA Salam and Muslem
Uddin Ahmed.
Pakistani occupation forces arrested the architect of the country's
Independence on March 25, 1971 from his Dhanmondi residence during late night
crackdown on the people of Bangladesh (the then East Pakistan) and sent him
to the then West Pakistan.
On this day (January 10) in 1972, Bangabandhu returned to an Independent
country after nine and a half months of captivity in the Pakistani jail which
later appeared to be crucial in the subsequent political history of
Bangladesh and re-established the spirit and norms of the Liberation War in
the country.
