RANGPUR, Aug 2, 2026 (BSS) - Another nine-month old baby named Shaon died of measles symptoms at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital (RPMCH) on Saturday night, taking the child death toll from measles in Rangpur division to 12.
 
Officials of the Rangpur Divisional Health Director's office confirmed this information on Sunday afternoon.

Shaon, son of Sweet Mia of Sadar upazila in Nilphamari district, died while undergoing treatment in the hospital's measles isolation ward. 
 
In addition, 20 patients with measles-rubella symptoms have been identified in Rangpur division in the last 24 hours. 
 
Of them, one is undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat General Hospital while five others at Nilphamari, four at Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital and 10 at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. 
 
From March 30 to August 2 (Sunday) this year, 2,150 patients with measles-rubella symptoms have been identified in Rangpur division and 2,098 patients have recovered and returned home after recovery. 
 
Currently, 52 patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals in the division.
