SATKHIRA, Aug 12, 2026 (BSS) - A farmer was killed in a lightning strike today while working in a paddy field in Shyamnagar of Satkhira.

The deceased was identified as Md. Lutfar Rahman, 55, son of the late Ahad Ali of Paschim Sriphalkati village under Shyamnagar upazila.

The incident took place at around 6:30 am in Paschim Sriphalkati village.

Local UP member Shyamal Kumar Mandal said Lutfar Rahman used to cultivate paddy in Paschim Sriphalkati beel.

On Wednesday morning, when Lutfar was working in the paddy seedbed and a lightning strike killed him on the spot, he said.

Preparations are being made by the family of the victim to bury the body, Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahidul Islam said.
