DINAJPUR, August 21, 2026 (BSS) - A mother and her nine-year-old daughter were killed under the wheels of a truck after falling from a motorcycle following a collision at Ghoraghat upazila of the district today.

The accident occurred at about 2:30 pm on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway near Sardar Filling Station in Ghoraghat municipality area of the district.

The deceased were identified as Sampa Begum, 35, wife of Selim Sardar of Fulhar Nasirabad village under Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha district and her daughter Nusaifa Akter, 9. Sampa’s husband Selim Sardar was riding the motorcycle who also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

According to eyewitness and tea-stall owner Zainal Abedin, Selim was travelling with his wife and daughter by the motorcycle to attend a family invitation at his relative's house at Chhattipara village of Gobindaganj upazila.

When they were approaching the Islampur Bazar area of Ghoraghat municipality, a truck coming from Gobindaganj towards Dinajpur hit their motorcycle from behind.

The impact threw Sampa and Nusaifa onto the road. The truck then ran over them before fleeing the scene, leaving both mother and daughter dead on the spot.

Ghoraghat Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shahidul Islam said the mother and daughter died at the scene. Police are trying to identify the truck and arrest its driver.

Police recovered the bodies and prepared inquest reports. Police said the bodies were later handed over to the family without post-mortem as the family raised no objection and with permission from the higher authorities.
