RAJSHAHI, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) - The upazila administration has seized around 670 sacks of different types of fertilizer from the house of a fertilizer trader at Arail village under Durgapur upazila of the district.
The fertilizer was seized during a drive conducted by a mobile court on Friday afternoon following a tip-off about illegal hoarding.
Durgapur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Umme Habiba Farzana and Upazila Agriculture Officer Sahana Parvin Laboni led the drive.
The officials recovered the fertilizer stored inside the house of local trader Saidur Rahman.
Sensing the presence of the administration, Saidur fled the scene, officials said.
Local sources said the trader had allegedly been hoarding fertilizer to create an artificial shortage in the market and sell it later at higher prices.
As demand for fertilizer is high among farmers during the current agricultural season, the trader had allegedly stocked the fertilizer at his residence for profiteering.
The UNO said the administration would continue drives against illegal hoarding to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizer and protect farmers' interests.
