RANGPUR, Sept 12, 2026 (BSS) - Like the rest of the country, a three-month 
dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign was launched today in Rangpur city 
with a call to its residents to destroy mosquito breeding sites to prevent 
the spread of dengue. 
 
Earlier in the morning, the inaugural ceremony of the nationwide dengue 
prevention and cleanliness campaign by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was 
broadcast on a large screen at the city's Public Library ground under the 
initiative of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC). 
 
RpCC Administrator Advocate Mahfuz-un-Nabi Don, Metropolitan Police 
Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rashid and City Corporation Chief Executive Officer 
Rakib Hasan, army personnel, RpCC officials and staff, BNCC and people from 
various walks of life participated in the event.
 
Subsequently, Deputy Commissioner Israt Jahan presided over the inaugural 
ceremony of the district-level dengue prevention and cleanliness drive at 
Rangpur Collectorate Surovi Udyan in the city. 
 
Rangpur Development Authority Chairman and Metropolitan BNP Convener Md 
Samsuzzaman Samu, District Council Administrator and District BNP Convener Md 
Saiful Islam, among others, spoke at the event. 
 
The speakers noted that the Prime Minister has inaugurated the nationwide 
dengue prevention and cleanliness drive today. 
 
To this end, the RpCC will conduct cleanliness operations across Rangpur 
city. However, residents themselves must become aware and proactive in 
preventing dengue. 
 
They further emphasized the need to empty stagnant water from discarded 
containers such as coconut shells, tires, and flower pots. 
 
Mosquito breeding sites must be destroyed, and bushes and undergrowth around 
homes, offices, and courtyards must be cleared. 
 
If all conscious citizens participate in these efforts proactively, a 
beautiful, clean city can be built, they said.
 
Following the speeches, activities such as sweeping up trash, fogging and 
spraying to kill mosquitoes, and clearing weeds were carried out at the 
Suravi Udyan. 
 
In addition to the RpCC's regular cleaning activities, 100 sanitation workers 
will be deployed for the cleanliness drive over the next three months across 
the city.
