RANGPUR, Feb 5, 2022 (BSS) – Academics and officials at a discussion have urged youths to become library-oriented for acquiring knowledge to build an enlightened and peaceful society.
They viewed this at the discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Divisional Public Library (DPL) at its seminar room here in observance of the National Library Day- 2022 on Saturday afternoon.
The day was observed aiming at highlighting the importance of libraries, books and building reading habit in the daily life of common people, especially youths and young generations, to enrich their knowledge and moral values.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan inaugurated the observance by releasing balloons with festoons as the chief guest.
Former Member of Parliament and Awami League central committee Member Advocate Hosne Ara Lutfa Dalia presided over the discussion arranged abiding by the health directives in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Moderated by Assistant Director of the Divisional Public Library Md. Abed Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Special Branch) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Bakar Siddique addressed the discussion as guest of honour.
Former Head of the Department of Bengali of Rangpur Begum Rokeya Government College Professor Mohammad Shah Alam and Deputy Director of the Central Library of Begum Rokeya University Abdus Samad Prodhan were present as special guests.
The speakers discussed the essence of libraries those have been playing a very important role in enhancing book reading habit of the people to enrich knowledge by removing ignorance to build a more civilised and enlightened society.
Comparing the libraries with the ocean-like treasures of knowledge, Professor Shah Alam suggested everyone, especially younger generations, to become library-oriented for building book reading habit to acquire knowledge.
“The libraries are the most enriched sources of knowledge about ancient and present societies, life, human philosophy, histories, civilisations, politics, country and the globe as a whole,"he said.
