GAIBANDHA, Feb 21, 2022 (BSS) - Amar Ekushey and the International Mother Language Day-2022 is being observed in the district.
In the observance of the day, the district administration, ruling party Awami Legue and other political parties, various socio- cultural organizations and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes.
The day’s prgramme began through placing floral wreaths at the Central Saheed Minar located at Gaibandha Poura Park at 12.01 am.
The programmes included hoisting of national flag at half mast atop all the government, private, commercial buildings and educational institutions, wearing black badge and bringing out provat ferry in the morning.
The programmes also included screening documentary film on Amar Ekushey at the arrangement of District Information Office and children’s art, hand writing and essay writing competition by Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
Besides, special prayers were also offered in the mosques, temples and the churches in the district seeking the blessing of Almighty Allah for the salvation of the departed souls of the language heroes.
In addition, a discussion meeting organized by district administration on the significance of the day was held virtually with deputy commissioner (DC) Oliur Rahman in the chair.
Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and member of Parliament (MP) from Gaibandha-2 Constituency (Sadar upazila) Mahabub Ara Begum Gini addressed it as the chief guest and police super Muhammad Towhidul Islam, general secretary of district Awami League Abu Bakar Siddique, Sadar upazila parishad chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir and mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Md. Matlubour Rahman took part in the discussion meeting as the special guests.
Whip Gini in her speeches said the significance of Ekushey February is immense for enriching our national life and has brought international glory for the country through receiving the recognition of the International Mother Language Day.
Urging all to maintain the sanctity of the day seriously, she also remembered with due respect the valiant martyrs namely Jabbar, Barkat, Rafique, Shafique and Salam along with other language martyrs who laid down their lives in the Language Movement in 1952.
Similar programmes are also held at other six upazila headqarters and rural areas of the district in a befitting manner marking the day following the heath guidelines including wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
