RANGPUR, April 3, 2022 (BSS) - A mobile court fined two persons Taka one lakh for illegally lifting sand from the river Jamuneswari at Milanpur and Barobala areas in Mithapukur upazila in the district on Saturday afternoon.

   Getting allegations from locals about illegally extracting sand from the river by some people, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Mithapukur upazila and Executive Magistrate Mahmud Hasan Mridha led the mobile court with assistance of police and other officials.

   During the two separate raids, the mobile court fined one Masud Rana Taka 50,000 and another Moksedul Momin Taka 50,000 for their involvement in illegally extracting sand from the river.

   "We will continue conducting similar raids to stop illegal sand lifting activities from different rivers in Mithapukur upazila in the future," the Executive Magistrate told local reporters.
