FARIDPUR, April 14, 2022 (BSS) - Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bengali New Year-1429, was celebrated here today with much enthusiasm and traditional functions as elsewhere in the country.
People from different socio-cultural organizations joined a traditional rally "Mongol Shobhajatra" organized by Faridpur district administration.
Led by Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarker, the cheerful rally with euphoric drum beat paraded the main street of Mujib Sarak at 9 am from the DC office.
Superintendent of Police Md Alimuzzaman, president of the district Awami League Advocate Subol Chandra Saha, Faridpur Pourashava Mayor Amitav Bose and freedom fighter Abul Fayaz Shah Newaz, among others, joined the rally.
Leading cultural organizations including Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Gosthi, Faridpur Shilpakala Academy, Shishu Academy, Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Khelaghore as well as different educational institutions and cultural figures in the district participated in the program.
Later a cultural program and prize giving ceremony was arranged at Faridpur Shishu Academy where Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarker spoke as chief guest with ADC (general) Dipok Kumar Roy was in the chair.
Earlier, Faridpur Sahittya O Sangskriti Unnnayan Sangstha (FSOSUS) arranged musical programme and discussion meeting as the day's first program at its own premises in the town. Baul Azmol Shah, Badol Das, Lutfunnahar Lata and Steve Tourjo, among others, rendered songs on the occasion.
