RAJSHAHI, April 19, 2022 (BSS) - Five alleged members, including a female, of an organised cheating gang were arrested along with Taka 3,200 in cash from Terakhadia area under Rajpara Police Station in the city last night.

 
According to the police, the arrested were identified as Masum Sheikh, 38, son of late Alam Sheikh, Ashique Ali, 23, son of Selim Ali, Muntasir Ali, 29, son of Muhammad Ali, Muhammad Polash, 27, son of late Shamsul Alam and Sharifa Akhter Sathi, 27, wife of Mamunur Rahman.
Of them, Masum Sheikh was the kingpin of the cheating gang.
 
On a tip-off, a Detective Branch team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) conducted a sudden raid in the area and arrested them with the cash money and some other devices used by police red-handed around 8.30 pm.
 
The arrested persons were involved in cheating with the affluent people in the name of making love affairs with youngsters, police sources said.
 
They used to collect money from the people through bKash accounts tactically, said RMP Commissioner Abu Kalam Siddque while addressing a press briefing on the issue at his office conference hall today.
 
He also urged the public in general to remain alert related to the fraud gang as many of the innocent people have lost money and social dignity and image after being trapped by the fraudsters.
 
A case has been lodged with Rajpara Police Station under Digital Security Law in this connection and the arrested persons were handed over to police this noon.
