GAIBANDHA, MAY, 11, 2022 (BSS) - Speakers in a function here underscored the need for setting up an EPZ at Saheb Bazar Bagda Farm area under Gabindaganj Upazila at an urgent basis to ensure the development of Gaibandha district and its people.
“It will undoubtedly help to establish new industries, create new jobs, rapidly change their socio-economic conditions and earn foreign currencies to reach the country towards its desired development goal”, they said while addressing a meeting on the establishment of an EPZ at Saheb Bazar area under Gabindaganj upazila here yesterday.
The district administration has organized the meeting at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) here in association with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA).
Engineer Monowar Hossain Chowdhury, MP, addressed the meeting as chief guest while Chairman of BEPZA Major General Abul Kalam Md Shafiur Rahman, Chairman of Sugar and Food Industries Cooperation Arifur Rahman Apu and Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Industries Md Nasim Ahmed spoke at the function as the special guests.
Presided over by DC Gaibandha Oliur Rahman, the meeting was also addressed among others by Member of BEPZA Faruque Ahmed, President of district Awami League Adv Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru, Superintendent of Police (SP) Muhammad Towhidul Islam, Chairman of Gabindaganj Upazila Parishad Abdul Latif Prodhan, Gabindaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arif Hossain and Mayor of Gabindaganj Municipality Muketur Rahman Rafi.
The authorities of Rangpur Sugar Mill told the meeting that the land at Saheb Bazar Bagda Farm is their acquired land and the farm has already been handed over it to BEPZA.
Chairman of BEPZA Major General Abul Kalam Md Shafiur Rahman said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has decided to establish an EPZ on the land of Bagda Farm area owned by Rangpur Sugar Mill and the process of implementation of EPZ is underway.
In this context, he sought whole hearted cooperation from all people here so that the EPZ could be established without any hassle, he commented.
He also expected that the EPZ would help to reach the district and the Upazilas towards desired sustainable development goal by creating positive impacts to the people of the area.
The leaders of Adibashi Sangram Parishad and the Santals who were opposing the EPZ at the area also took part in the meeting.
