KHULNA, May 29, 2022 (BSS) - The International Day of United Nations
Peacekeepers was observed here today in a befitting manner.
The International Day for UN Peacekeepers is being observed on May 29 every
year across the world aiming to underscore the importance of maintaining
global peace, pay tribute to those who are involved in the peacekeeping
missions and honour the UN peacekeepers who sacrificed their lives in
establishing global peace.
To mark the day, a rally organised by Bangladesh Navy of Khulna Naval Zone
was held at City's Shibbari Intersection around 7.30am.
Regional Commander of Khulna Naval Zone Rear Admiral Mohammad Anwar Hossain
addressed the rally as the chief guest.
Earlier, he inaugurated the rally through releasing balloons, festoons and
pigeons and observed one-minute silence for the honour of slain UN
peacekeepers.
Among others, high officials of Army, Navy, Police, UN organisations to
Bangladesh, government officials of local administration of Khulna and
Bangladesh National Cadet Core (BNCC) of different school and colleges
attended the programme.
Combined Forces of Bangladesh (BCF) and Bangladesh Police (BP) are working
the International Peace Keeping activities in last two decades and performed
their duties successfully, an official said.
"A total of 1,83,378 members of Country's BCF and BP have completed 55
missions of 43 countries across the world successfully," he said, adding that
there are currently 6,825 BCF and BP members deployed in the various
peacekeeping missions under the auspices of the United Nations.
A total of 161 Bangladeshi peacekeepers sacrificed their lives while
performing their duties to ensure global peace, the official added.
