One gets death penalty for killing in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, June 2, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced one person to death and 23 others accused were acquitted for killing Kamal Hossain in Kashiani upazila of the district in 2015.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Abbas Uddin delivered the verdict today.

The death penalty accused was identified as Chan Mia alias Chandu Mia. He was the main accused of the case.
 
According to the statement of case, on May 16 in 2015, Kamal Hossain was returning home from the house of Ismail Mollah of the village, Chan Mia and his accomplices jumped on Kamal and started beating him at random. At one stage, Kamal was stabbed in the chest. When Kamal fell on the spot, the locals rescued him and took him to Kashiani Upazila Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

On May 18 in 2015 Shahadat Fakir, the father of the deceased, filed a murder case against 28 people at Kashiani Police Station. The Kashiani police station submitted the investigation report in the case, the plaintiff in the case did not agree to the police investigation report and later the court gave the responsibility of investigation to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

After a long investigation, the PBI submitted an investigation report accusing 24 people.

After examining records and witnesses, the additional district and sessions judge delivered the verdict and acquitted 23 others as allegations brought against them could not be proved.

Accused Chan Mia, who was sentenced to death, is absconding, said Public Prosecutor (PP) advocate Shahiduzzaman Khan Pitu.
