NETRAKONA, June 23, 2022 (BSS) - The overall flood situation in Netrakona district marked a slight improvement today as the flood water started receding slowly from the flood -hit areas during the last 24 hours ending at 6 pm today.
District administration sources said that at least four people have so far died in flood-affected areas of the district today. A total of 5,46,800 people have so far been affected in the district by flood.
Of them, 1,12,626 flood -hit people including 49,154 female, 17,855 children and 499 disabled persons have already taken shelter in 360 flood shelters opened in different educational institutions of the district.
Apart from these, 22,164 cattle heads have been taken to the flood shelters along with the marooned people.
In response to the call of district administration, members of the Bangladesh Army continued their relief distribution and rescue operation to evacuate marooned people from the flood affected areas in Khaliajury, Mohanganj, Barhatta Kalmakanda and Durgapur upazilas of the district till today.
Meanwhile, relief operations have been further geared up in the flood affected areas of the district to mitigate the sufferings of the flood-hit people, deputy commissioner (DC) Netrakona Anjana Khan Majlish told BSS here today.
District administration has already sent government allocated 593 metric tonnes of rice, 5000 packets of dry foods and cash money amounting to taka 33 lakhs to the upazila administrations for distributing those among the flood victims of the district, the DC added.
