Janmashtami celebrated amid festivity in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Aug 19, 2022 (BSS) - The Sanaton community today celebrated Janmashtami, the birthday of Lord Sri Krishna, with due religious fervour, festivity and enthusiasm in the city.
 
The district and city units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) with assistance of district administration and Hindu Kallyan Trust chalked out colorful programmes to celebrate the occasion.
 
The programmes included Mangal Shovajatra, discussion on Lord Krishna and religious rituals, special prayers seeking divine blessings for continuous peace, welfare and prosperity of the nation and humanity.
 
Special prayers, puja and recitation from the holy Sreematbhagabat Geeta were arranged and Krishna Bandana offered at mandirs, temples and houses and Prasads were distributed among devotees.
 
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the pre-Mangal Shovajatra discussion jointly arranged by the district and city units of BPUP at Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest.
 
Presided over by President of district unit of BPUP Shree Ajoy Prasad Babon, General Secretary of Rangpur city unit of BPUP Advocate Prashant Kumar Roy moderated the discussion.
 
General Secretary of district unit of BPUP Shree Dhiman Bhattacharya delivered a welcome speech.
 
President of Rangpur city unit of BPUP and Ward Councilor (Ward No-4) of Rangpur City Corporation Haradhan Roy Hara addressed as the keynote discussant.
 
General Secretary of Rangpur City Awami League Tushar Kanti Mondal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (City Special Branch) of Rangpur Metropolitan Police Abu Bakar Siddique spoke as special guests.
 
Former President of District Chhatra League Mehedee Hasan Siddique Rony, Sanaton community leaders Shree Ramakrishna Somani, Nidhuram Adhikari, Nikhil Chandra Bagchi, Partho Bose, Rajib Adhikari and Poran Bhattacharya also spoke.
 
The speakers said all endeavors of Lord Krishna were aimed at establishing truth and cementing bonds of humanity, love, affection and brotherhood among the people of different communities.
 
They said the ideals of Lord Krishna would inspire his disciples forever to be more dedicated for the cause of humanity.
 
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafa said Bangladesh is a land of communal harmony for time immemorial and no evil force would be allowed to destroy communal peace and brotherhood in the country.
 
"People of different faiths, castes, creeds and religions have been living together on this soil in peace, harmony and friendly environment setting up a dazzling example of communal harmony and brotherhood glorifying our nation globally," he said.
 
He urged people of all religions and faiths to further reinforce the peaceful communal coexistence and brotherhood among the people of all faiths and work unitedly in the process of building a developed Bangladesh by 2041.
 
After the discussion, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani formally inaugurated the Mangal Shovajatra on the Town Hall premises.
 
Tens of hundreds of the Sanaton devotees of all ages, attired in traditional dresses, took part in the Mangal Shovajatra carrying the idol of Lord Krishna from the Town Hall premises to Shree Shree Karunamoyee Kalibari Mandir in the city.
