RAJSHAHI, Sept 7, 2022 (BSS) - A total of 85 journalists here today received Taka 26.90 lakhs from Bangladesh Journalists Welfare Trust (BJWT) constituted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as financial assistance for the Covid-19 pandemic.
Of them, 21 journalists were given cheques of Taka 20.50 lakhs from BJWT and 64 others Taka 6.40 lakhs as support for Covid-19 pandemic.
The cheques were distributed at a function held at the office of Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ) here today.
Mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation and Awami League Presidium Member AHM Khairuzzaman Liton distributed the cheques as chief guest with Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi Abdul Jalil in the chair.
President of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists Omar Faruque and BJWT Managing Director Subhash Chandra Badal were present on the occasion.
Addressing the meeting, Mayor Liton said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is media-friendly and the formation of BJWT is a very much benevolent task for the journalists.
He also said the nationwide development programmes have become visible and urged the journalists to highlight the development and successes of the government through their objective reporting.
Omar Faruque said this financial assistance will contribute a lot towards improving the level of confidence of the working journalists as the Premier stands beside them by enhancing her helping hand.
