RANGPUR, Oct 5, 2022 (BSS) - The Sanaton community completed five-day celebrations of the Durga Puja, their greatest religious festival, with immersion of idols of goddess Durga in water bodies here today amid huge festivity with due religious fervour.
The Sanaton community celebrated Durga Puja through performing religious rituals at all Puja mandaps in all eight upazilas and Rangpur city of the district this year amid tight security measures.
Since the morning on the concluding day of 'Mohadashami' of the five-day celebrations, the Puja mandap premises became overcrowded and wore eye-catching looks across the district.
Hundreds of the Sanaton devotees, mostly females, thronged Puja mandaps to have their last glance at goddess Durga and sought her blessings for the well-being of the nation, country, its people and humanity as whole.
They fed goddess Durga with sweets, put vermilion on her face and exchanged the same among themselves at the Puja mandaps in the district.
Leaders of local units of Bangladesh Puja Udjapon Parishad (BPUP) expressed satisfaction over the tight security measures taken by the authorities concerned to ensure peaceful celebrations of the Durga Puja festival.
The district and city units of BPUP brought out a 'Colorful Mongol Shovayatra' on the 'Shuvo Bijoya Dashami' from 'Shurovi Uddyan' premises this afternoon carrying idols of Devi Durga, other gods and goddesses on trucks for immersions in water bodies.
Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa and Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan jointly inaugurated the 'Colorful Mongol Shovayatra' at a function arranged on the occasion. The 'Colorful Mongol Shovayatra' started from Shurovi Uddyan premises in the city.
President of district unit of BPUP Ajoy Prasad Babon, General Secretary of its city unit Haradhan Roy, General Secretary of city Awami League Tushar Kanti Mondal and other leaders of the Sanaton community were present.
The law enforcers were seen guarding the 'Colorful Mongol Shovayatra' and carrying and immersing the idols of Devi Durga at the places of immersion.
Most of the idols of goddess Durga were immersed into the water bodies of Mulatol Dighee, Dimla Mandir Dighee, Jailkhana Ghat, Doulatpur Dighee, Rail Gate Dighee, the rivers Ghagot and other water bodies in the city and its surrounding areas.
President of district unit of BPUP Ajoy Prasad Babon thanked the government, local administrations and law enforcement agencies for ensuring complete security during the five-day celebrations of the Durga Puja festival.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam, Deputy Inspector General for Rangpur Range Police Mohd Abdul Alim Mahmud, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asib Ahsan, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Awami League leaders and other officials visited different Puja mandaps and exchanged greetings with the Sanaton devotees.
