KHULNA, Oct 13, 2022 (BSS) - With the theme of 'Early warning and early
action for all’, Khulna district administration observed the 'International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction’ today in a befitting manner.
To mark the day, a discussion was held at the deputy commissioner's office which was addressed by DC Md Moniruzzaman Talukder as the chief guest.
Chaired by additional deputy commissioner (general) Md Sadikur Rahman Khan, the meeting was addressed, among others, by
chief executive officer of Khulna Zila Parishad Md Asaduzzaman, Freedom
Fighters Alamgir Kabir and Sarder Mahbubur Rahman, executive engineer of
public works of Division-1 Amit Kumar Biswas, executive engineer of Road and
Highways in Khulna Asaduzzaman Masud, executive engineer of Water Development
Board Md Ashraful Alam, Primary Education Officer Md Towhidul Islam,
assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Faruk Hossain Shikder.
District Relief and Disaster Rehabilitation Officer Ranajit Kumar Sarker
delivered the welcome speech.
DC Md Moniruzzaman Talukder said that Bangladesh has improved a lot in early warning system and overall disaster management.
"Now casualties and damages caused by disaster have reduced significantly. The government is working to improve the situation further," he said.
Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had begun disaster risk reduction activities in 1972, he said, adding, "We’re more
capable to face natural disasters now".
The early warning system for preventing lightening strikes will be installed very soon, he added.
Earlier, a procession led by KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque was brought out in the city.
