Sheikh Russel's 59th birthday observed in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Oct 18, 2022 (BSS) - The “Sheikh Russel Day” marking the 59th birthday of the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Shaheed Sheikh Russel was observed through various programmes here today.
 
The district and divisional administrations, Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP), Rangpur City Corporation, Awami League (AL) and its associate bodies and many other organizations chalked out various programmes to celebrate the day.
 
The district administration brought out a colorful rally with the participation of officials, politicians, students, teachers, professionals, socio-cultural activists, civil society members and common people from Rangpur Zilla School to the Town Hall premises in the morning.
 
Later, Divisional Commissioner Md. Sabirul Islam, RpMP Commissioner Nure Alam Mina, Rangpur City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, Deputy Commissioner Md. Asif Ahasan, Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, high officials and political leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel at the Public Library Munch in the city.
 
The Divisional Commissioner along with high officials released 58 balloons there marking the day.
 
Diabetic tests and health checkups were conducted free of cost at a health camp arranged in the city. Residents of Government Shishu Paribars, unprivileged and slum dweller children were taken to Entrainment Park, Children Park and Rangpur Zoo and ‘Vinnojagat’ tourist spot.
 
The central programmes taken marking the celebrations of Sheikh Russel’s birthday were screened live at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium.
 Later, scouts and girl guides delivered presentations on ‘Amader Chhoto Russel Sona’ and ‘Priyo Sheikh Russel’ there.
 
A book exhibition on Sheikh Russel was arranged at the Government Public Library in the city.
 
Milad, doa mehfils, munajats and special prayers were offered at all mosques and other places of religious worships seeking divine blessings for departed souls of Sheikh Russel and other martyrs of August 15, 1975, including Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
 
Improved diets were served to the inmates of hospitals, Rangpur Central Jail, old homes, child and orphanage centres, Government Shishu Paribars and vagabond centers.
 
Children paraded Rangpur Police Lines School and College ground with flags bearing pictures of Sheikh Russel and charity football and rugby matches were arranged there for boys and girls in the afternoon.
 
Deputy Commissioner Md. Asif Ahsan presided over the main discussion on the life of Sheikh Russel held at the District Shilpokola Academy auditorium. High officials and political leaders addressed the event.
 
Later, prizes were distributed at a function there among the winners of essay and drawing competitions organized marking the day.
 
Rangpur City Corporation celebrated the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel through placing wreaths at his portrait followed by doa mehfil and discussion at the City Bhaban.
 
Leaders and workers of the district and city units of AL and its associate bodies celebrated “Sheikh Russel Day” marking the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel separately through elaborate programmes in the city.
 
President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, its General Secretary Advocate Reazul Karim Razu, President of city AL Shafiur Rahman, its General Secretary Tushar Kanti Mandal with other leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Sheikh Russel followed by separate discussions and doa mehfils at their respective offices in the city.
