Sheikh Russel's 59th birthday observed in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 18, 2022 (BSS) - The 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was observed here today in a befitting manner.
 
District administration, AL and its front organizations, scores of cultural, social and literary organisations, and educational institutions, celebrated the day through daylong programmes.
 
The programmes included cutting birthday cakes, milad and doa mahfils, discussions and special prayers.
 
Chattogram district administration placed a wreath at Sheikh Russell Square in front of its office.
Divisional Commissioner Ashraf Uddin, Chattogram Range DIG Anwar Hossain, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mominur Rahman, Superintendent of District Police SM Shafiullah, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nazmul Ahsan, Zila and Mahanagar Freedom Fighters Sangsad commanders, among others, were present while placing flower wreath.
 
Chattogram Zila Shishu Academy and Amra Korbo Joy, a juvenile organization, arranged a discussion meeting in the academy auditorium this afternoon to mark the day.
 
 
Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammad Mominur Rahman attended the discussion meeting as the chief guest.
 
 
Earlier, academy children presented patriotic songs and cultural functions followed by cutting a birthday cake.
 
Besides different socio-cultural organizations and educational institutions observed the day in a befitting manner.
 
 
To mark the day, Chattogram City AL and its front organizations organized a milad and doa mahfils, discussion meeting, cutting birthday cake and special prayers at the city's Theater Institute Hall today.
 
 
Acting President of Chattogram city AL Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury presided over the function while former Mayor of Chattogram city corporation AJM Nasir Uddin, AL leaders - Khurshed Alam Sujan, Altaf Hossain Bahccu, Advocate Ibrahim Hossain Chowdhury and Advocate Iftaker Saimul Chowdhury among others, participated in the function.
 
As part of the birth anniversary programme, Chattogram north district AL organized a discussion meeting at its Doost building office this afternoon with its President Zilla Parisad Chairman M A Salam in the chair.
 
Earlier, separate cakes were cut on the occasion of Sheikh Russel's birth anniversary.
 
Special prayers were also offered in all places of worship, including mosques, temples and monasteries, seeking peace for the departed soul.
 
Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the capital on October 18 in 1964.
 
He was brutally killed along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu, on August 15, 1975, when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.
