KHULNA, Nov 3, 2022 (BSS) -The Jail Killing Day was observed here today paying rich tribute to the four national leaders who were assassinated inside the Dhaka Central Jail on this day in 1975.

At a function on the occasion, the speakers said, the Jail Killing Day is one the shameful day of the world history and it was a planned and deep-rooted treason after the brutal killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to erase the country's name from the global map.

They said the killers wanted to make Awami League (AL) a leader-less part by killing the four liberation war heroes and national leaders at Dhaka Central Jail on November 3, 1975 just 79 days after the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.

Khulna City and District units of Awami League (AL) and its front organizations, different socio-cultural and professional organizations observed the day through elaborate programmes.

The day's programme began with the hoisting of national, party and black flags half-mast atop of AL offices.

Placing of wreaths at the portraits of four national leaders, wearing black badges, arranging milad mahfil, Khatme Quran, special prayers at mosques, temples, Churches and Pagodas and discussions were the main features of the day.

Apart from this, various government, semi-government and autonomous
organizations also placed wreaths early this morning.

Marking the day, City and District units of Awami League (AL) organized a discussion at the party office this evening. The party also arranged Quran Khwani, Doa Mahfil and feeding of the destitute in all the wards of the city.

President of City unit Awami League and mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque chaired the meeting while President of district unit Awami League and Chairman of Khulna  Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, general secretary of city unit AL M D A Babul Rana, general secretary of district unit AL Advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikary and other front-ranking AL leaders spoke, among others.

Khulna University (KU), Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) and various other educational and financial institutions also observed the day through separate programmes.

Apart from Khulna city and district units of AL and its various front organizations, Jubo League, Chhatra League, different college of AL units brought out processions in their respective campuses demanding proper punishment of the killers of the four national leaders.
