JOYPURHAT, Nov 10, 2022 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced four people, including father and sons, to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Sadar upazila of the district in 2005.

Joypurhat District and Session Judge Md Noor Islam pronounced the verdict this afternoon.

The convicts sentenced to life term are - Ramzan Ali, 65, and his sons Ranju, 47, and Shaheen Alam alias Roni, 49, and Abdul Hannan, 48, son of Rezaul Islam. They are all residents of Panditpur village of Vadsa union of Joypurhat Sadar upazila of the district. Accused Ranju is absconding.

The court also fined them Taka 10,000 each, in default, they will have to suffer more one year rigorous imprisonment.

According to the details of the case, the body of Enamul Haque, 30, was recovered by the police on February 2, 2005 lying in the potato field. Enamul Haque's neck and other parts of the body were found with injury marks.

Altaf Hossain, the father of the victim, filed a murder case with the Joypurhat police station with reference to a dispute over money transactions with Ramzan Ali.

The investigating officer in the case submitted a charge-sheet against seven people on 4 April in 2005.
 

After examining the record and witnesses, the court found four people guilty and three people were acquitted.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Nripendranath Mondal confirmed the matter.
