KHULNA, Nov 16, 2022 (BSS) - The second death anniversary of Sheikh Razia Naser, aunt of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was observed today through various programmes.
Sheikh Razia Naser, the wife of Bangabandhu's younger brother Sheikh Abu Naser, passed away on November 16, 2020 at the age of 83.
Khulna City and District Unit of Awami League, its front organizations and family members of Razia Naser chalked out various programmes to mark her second death anniversary.
The programmes include recitation from the holy Quran, condolence meeting, doa mahfil and distribution of food among the distressed people.
Razia Naser is survived by her five sons, two daughters and grandchildren. Her husband was killed on the fateful night of August 15, 1975 along with Bangabandhu.
Among her five sons, Sheikh Helal Uddin is a lawmaker from Bagerhat-1 constituency while Sheikh Salahuddin Jewel is an MP from Khulna-2 constituency.
Razia Naser's grandson Sheikh Sarhan Naser Tonmoy is an MP from Bagerhat-2 constituency.
Marking the day, a condolence meeting was held at the AL office after Magrib prayer today. Chaired by City Unit AL and mayor of KCC Talukder Abdul Khaleque, the meeting was addressed, among others, by District AL President and Chairman of Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, City and District Units General secretaries MDA Babul Rana and advocate Sujit Adhikary and Sheikh Sohel, director of Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The AL leaders said Razia Naser loved Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina like a daughter and stood by her after she returned home in 1981.
Describing Razia Naser as a "witness of Bangladesh's history," they said the nation has lost a great woman at the death of the 'Ratnagarva Ma' (mother of distinguished children.
Her family members also arranged different programmes at the City's Sher-e-Bangla residence. The programmes include recitation from the holy Quran, doa mahfil and distribution of food among the distressed people.
