RANGPUR, Nov 21, 2022 (BSS) - The Armed Forces Day-2022 was celebrated marking the 51st founding anniversary of Bangladesh Armed Forces comprising Army, Navy and Air Force at Rangpur cantonment in the city this afternoon.
Under management of Rangpur Area of Bangladesh Army, programs were taken to celebrate the day befittingly paying profound respect to the memories of the martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation, a press release said.
Some 305 heroic freedom fighters from all over Rangpur division attended the function.
Members of Parliament, District Council Chairmen, Mayor of Rangpur, Awami League leaders, high ranking officials of the Armed Forces, divisional, district and police administrations, noted personalities, students and journalists were present.
Welcoming the invited heroic freedom fighters and guests, General Officer Commanding of 66 Infantry Division and Rangpur Area Commander Major General Md. Faizur Rahman with due respect remembered the best Bangalee of all times and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On behalf of Bangladesh Armed Forces, he paid deep respect to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and martyrs of the War of Liberation and heroic freedom fighters, who made supreme sacrifices during the War of Liberation.
He especially appreciated the unparalleled courage, cooperation and heroic contribution of people of Rangpur region during the War of Liberation and paid humble respect to heroic freedom fighters of the region.
He expressed deep gratitude to all heroic freedom fighters, family members of martyred heroic freedom fighters, invited guests and members of the Armed Forces of all ranks and thanked them for their presence in the celebration function and making it glorious.
The Bangladesh Armed Forces came into being and launched all-out attacks unitedly with independence-seeking people on the Pakistani occupation forces on November 21 adding a new dynamism and further momentum to the War of Liberation in 1971.
"The combined attacks of the heroic Armed Forces on the day accelerated the process of achieving independence and finally snatching away freedom of Bangladesh on December 16, 1971," he said.
Alongside conducting professional duties, the Armed Forces are contributing to facing any type of natural disasters, infrastructure construction, serving suffering humanity, resisting terrorism in Chattogram Hill Tracts and militancy, assisting civil administrations and in nation-building activities.
"Besides, the Armed Forces have brightened the country's image in the international arena through conducting duties with utmost sincerity in the United Nations' peacekeeping missions," he said.
He said the present government has been remaining sincere to modernise and expand the Armed Forces and make it time-befitting through further strengthening with modern technologies and military equipment.
