CHATTOGRAM, Aug 5, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 1117 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the district in the last 24-hours with a daily infection rate of 35.36 percent.
Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases climbed to 87,546 as 1117 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday in the district after testing samples of 3097 patients.
With nine more fatalities reported in the last 24 hours, the total number of Covid-19 casualties rose to 1,019 in the district.
Of the total deaths, 603 were the residents of the port city and the rest 417 were from different upazilas of the district.
The number of coronavirus patients in Chattogram district is on the rise and new records are being recorded every day, they said.
“There are no empty beds in the hospitals. The picture is the same in almost all public and private hospitals,” the sources added.
“The infection rate is showing an upward trend again and the recovery rate has gradually decreased in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi, civil surgeon of Chattogram, told BSS today.
The health experts of Chattogram urged city dwellers again and again to strictly follow health rules and use facemasks.
Among the newly detected patients, 631 are from Chattogram city and 446 from different upazilas of the district, hospital sources said.
Civil surgeon told BSS that among the total infected persons, 65,200 are the residents of the port city and the rest 22,446 are residents of different upazilas of the district.
“The number of cured patients from the lethal virus has reached 56,937 in Chattogram district with the recovery of 280 more patients on Friday,” Dr Rabbi said, adding that the percentage of recovery rate stands at 65.04.
A total of 4215 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at designated hospitals here, the health official mentioned.
