NETRAKONA, Dec 9, 2022 (BSS) - Netrakona liberation day was observed here
today recalling the front-battle between Pakistani occupation forces and the
freedom fighters which ended with hoisting of national flag of newly
independent Bangladesh by the freedom fighters atop all the public and
private buildings in the town on December 9, 1971.
The people of Netrakona were liberated and their soil was freed from the
occupation of Pakistani military forces on this day following the "landslide
victory" of freedom fighters in the face-to-face war that took place at
Muktarpara bridge area in the Netrakona town.
Netrakona district administration and different socio-cultural, political
and professional organisations, including district Awami league and district
Muktijoddha Sangsad took various programmes to mark the day.
The programmes included placing of floral wreaths on the memorial monuments
of martyred freedom fighters at district collectorate office here, bringing
out of colorful rally and holding of discussion meeting and cultural
function.
The day's programme formally started with placing of floral wreaths at the
freedom fighters memorial monument on the Netrakona district collectorate
office premises by State Minister for Social Welfare and valiant freedom
fighter Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru.
Then Deputy Commissioner of Netrakona Anjana Khan Mojlish, public
representatives, political leaders, freedom fighters and people from all
walks of life placed wreaths at the monument.
As part of the programme, a discussion meeting on "Netrakona liberation day"
was also held at local public hall here.
Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru addressed the meeting as the chief guest with Deputy
Commissioner of Netrakona in the chair.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by Chairman of Netrakona Zila
Parishad Asit Kumar Sarker Sazal, Mayor of Netrakona Municipality Nazrul
Islam Khan, President of Awami League (AL) Netrakona district unit Advocate
Amirul Islam and its General Secretary Advocate Shamsur Rahman Liton and
former commander of district Muktijoddha Sangsad Nurul Amin.
