Yasir is on course for a good BPL, says Bijoy

DHAKA, Jan 10, 2025 (BSS)-Durbar Rajshahi skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy believes
middle order batter Yasir Ali Chowdhury Rabbi has the capability to make this
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) a good tournament for him if he continues in
same vein.

He said Yasir also is determined to score heavily in this BPL to make his
presence felt once again.

"He (Yasir) has been a consistent performer in the domestic cricket but BPL
is different platform," Bijoy said after Yasir played an important role to
win the match against Khulna Tigers with his 25 ball-41 runs knock.

"BPL gives a player a lot more opportunity to be highlighted. Hopefully he
will continue in this vein and he is in a very good mental state at this
moment."

Yasir was once considered as the future prospect of Bangladesh and he proved
that by playing some good knocks for the national team. But later his
performance took a huge nosedive that led to his axe in the last year. After
that he is trying to force his case stronger.

But in the last season of BPL, he saw his form dipping once again. Playing
for Sylhet Strikers, he scored just 58 runs in four innings. However, he
seemed to get into the groove again by scoring 187 runs in eight matches in
the NCL T20, which preceded the BPL.

He carried this form in the BPL too and so far made 210 runs in five
matches, the third highest as of now amongst the batters.

Bijoy said giving him the assurance to play all matches instilled a
confidence in him, which is why he is able to express him better.

'To be honest, before the tournament we talked together and we knew who will
get matches regularly. Yasir is one of them whom we decided to give long
run," Bijoy revealed.

"This is always a confidence booster that you know that you are the regular
part of the squad. When you get a long run, it is easier to make a plan for
the whole tournament."

Bijoy further said a talented player like Yasir always deserves a good
opportunity.

"He is a player with very positive mindset. A very positive boy. Of course we
talk, we are together and we talk about how to improve further, how to
motivate the team. There is a responsibility on me and on Yasir which he is
using very well," he added.

"I think he can continue with the plan he has. And I hope I will get some
more innings from him. If he plays well, the team eventually will be
benefitted."
