Tanzid expects Liton to comeback strongly in nat’l team

CHATTOGRAM, Jan 15, 2025 (BSS)—Tanzid Hasan Tamim believes Liton Das won’t take long time to make a strong comeback in the national team.

The selection panel dropped Liton from the Champions Trophy-bound squad following his poor run of form and his axe made Tanzid a regular starter with Soumya Sarka at the top of the batting order.

Incidentally both Liton and Tanzid are playing in the same team—Dhaka Capital—in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).

“We all know how good he (Liton) is as a batter,” Tanzid said here today. “I myself also a big fan of him. So its’ little bit disappointing for me that he is not in the squad.”

Liton made just 13 runs in his last seven ODIs, including three ducks—a stat that played a vital role in his axing.

A few hours after being dropped, Liton struck a record-breaking 55 ball-125 not out against Durbar Rajshahi, a match that his side Dhaka Capital won by 149 runs. Taznid also struck 64 ball-108 in that match.

By watching Liton’s knock from very close, Tanzid was completely wooed.

“Some of his shots were eye-catching and treat to watch. I am very lucky to have witnessed the innings from very close.”

“But when you won’t play well, you will have to be dropped. We all have to accept it. We all know Liton Das has the ability to make a strong comeback very quickly.”

However, Tanzid was reluctant to talk about Champions Trophy at this moment as he wants to give his full focus on BPL.

“There will be expectation on me and on everyone to play well in the Champions Trophy. We all try to play well but sometimes we fail to live up to the expectation.”

“At this moment, my focus is on BPL. I want to play well here and then I will think about Champions Trophy.”
