CHATTOGRAM, Jan 17, 2025 (BSS) - Dubrar Rajshahi got back to winning ways in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with a 65-run victory over Sylhet Strikers at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here.
Rajshahi, who were flayed by Dhaka Capital in the previous match, registered their third victory by virtue of this win, which propelled them to the fourth spot in the point table.
Zimbabwe recruit Ryan Burl and local left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam were instrumental in the victory.
Burl hammered a 27-ball ball-41 as Durbar Rajshahi posted 184-7 and defended it with ease thanks to Sunzamul, who picked up 3-25. He was ably supported by Taskin Ahmed, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury and Aftab Alam who all took two wickets apiece to complement him.
Zakir Hasan and Jaker Ali Anik were the only two batters who could stand tall amid the failure of the others. Zakir struck 39 off 28, a knock laced with four fours and two sixes, while Jaker Ali smote three sixes for his 20-ball 31.
After electing to bat first, Rajshahi, in their first match in the Chattogram phase of BPL, made a decent start with Mohammad Haris and Jishan Alam providing initial impetus.
But no opener could continue it for a long time with Haris being out for 19 and Jishan on 20.
Skipper Anamul Haque Bijoy and Burl then shared 45 runs for the third wicket before Ruyel Meah got the breakthrough with the wicket of the skipper, who made 22 runs off 32 balls.
Brul continued to attack amid the wickets tumbling around him and gave Rajshahi a hope to propel past 200.
Nihaduzzaman, who took 2-37, removed Burl to block the way of 200. Burl, who was the fifth batter out, hit one four and four sixes in his knock.
Ruyel Meah, who eventually finished with 3-32, cleaned up the tail.
Nahidul Islam picked up 2-20 to complement Ruyel and Nihaduzzman.
After this defeat, Sylhet plunged to second bottom in the point table with just two wins in seven matches.
