CHATTOGRAM, Jan 22, 2025 (BSS) - Opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim continued his rich vein of form to hit a brilliant 54 ball-90 not out as Dhaka Capitals romped to an eight-wicket win over Chittagong Kings for their third victory in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here.
The victory lifted Dhaka to fourth place in the point table and thereby kept their playoff hopes alive.
Electing to bat first, Chittagong were restricted to 148-6, a total Dhaka gunned down with incredible ease by reaching 149-2 in 18.1 overs.
Tanzid struck three fours and seven sixes in his 90 not out which was instrumental in the facile victory.
He and Liton Das shared 75 runs for the opening stand in nine overs to make the victory a cake-walk. Liton, however, failed to make his start count as he was out for 25 off 28 after hitting three fours.
Munim Shahriar also played a slow knock but that mattered little as Tanzid kept attacking the bowlers relentlessly to keep the asking run rate under control.
Aliss Al Islam broke the partnership by removing Munim for 12 before Tanzid and Sabbir helped the side cruise to the home without further fuss. Sabbir was not out on 14.
Dhaka bowlers earlier bowled in disciplined manner to stifle the Chittagong batters with Mustafizur Rahman playing the key role. Even though the pace bowler didn't claim any wicket he gave away just 18 runs in his four overs, which created an enormous pressure on the home side.
Mosaddek Hossain and Nazmul Islam Apu took the advantage of the pressure created by Mustafizur by scalping two wickets apiece.
Opener Naeem Islam was the top-scorer for the side with 40 ball-44, a knock studded by five fours and two sixes. His fellow opener Zubaid Akbari scored 23.
Despite the defeat, Chittagong stay in third spot with five wins from nine matches.
