CHATTOGRAM, Jan 23, 2025 (BSS)—Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz led from the front as Khulna Tigers kept its Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) hopes alive with a six-wicket win over Sylhet Strikers at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here today.

Chasing a victory target of 153, after Sylhet were restricted to paltry 152-9, Miraz led the charge with 50 ball-70, steering the side to its fourth victory in nine matches with one ball to spare.

The victory helped Khulna move up to the fourth place as of now.

Miraz shared 65 runs with Naim Sheikh in the opening to keep Khulna’s nose ahead with the latter making 20 before being fallen to Nihaduzzman.

Shamiullah Shinwari took the wicket of Afif Hossain for 3, to put some pressure on Khulna but Miraz who struck eight fours and two sixes, helped the side claw back again.

Miraz, however, was dismissed by Nihaduzzmana who took 2-25 before he placed the side in a favourable position to win the game.

Alex Ross (23) and William Bosisto (19) sailed the side home after his departure with the latter confirming the victory with a six as Khulna reached 156-4.
Earlier, despite a blazing start, Sylhet Strikers were restricted to paltry total.

Electing to bat first, Sylhet lost opener Rony Talukdar in the first over but thanks to George Munsey and Zakir Hasan, they kept the side flowing rapidly.

Munsey top-scored the side with 32 ball-58, hitting six fours and four sixes while Zakir added 44 off 32. Apart from them, Sumon Khan was the only other batter to reach double digits, making 12.

Munsey and Zakir shared 74 runs off just 40 deliveries to keep the side on course of a big total with the Scotland recruit particularly harsh on Khulna captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz and fast bowler Hasan Mahmud.

He took 21 runs in an over of Miraz before sending Hasan Mahmud in the receiving end with consecutive four and six. However Abu Haider Rony dismissed Munsey to spark a collapse that saw Sylhet losing eight wickets for just 77 runs in 12.2 overs.

After Rony dismissed Munsey, Salman Irshad scythed down the middle order before Hasan Mahmud cleaned up the tail.

Rony, Hasan and Salman took two wickets apiece finally to put the side on course of a victory.
