DHAKA, Jan 26, 2025 (BSS) - Opener Soumya Sarkar made a comeback to the competitive cricket with a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match between Rangpur Riders and Durbar Rajshahi today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Soumya, who is the integral part of the Rangpur and helped them win Global Super League (GSL) trophy in West Indies, was supposed to play from the beginning of the tournament but that was not to be due to his injury and fever.
He was sidelined after sustaining a finger injury during his stint with Bangladesh national team in Caribbean tour in December last year. Later he suffered from a viral fever that delayed his comeback.
Before being injured, he was in superb form. Apart from helping Rangpur the GSL title, he scored 73 off 73 balls in the last match of the ODI series against the West Indies, and then 43 off 32 balls in a T20 match in that series.
Overall, he was in the process of coming back to his best. Soumya so far played 16 Tests, 75 ODIs and 87 T20 matches for the national team.
