DHAKA, Feb 1, 2025 (BSS)- Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud emulated Pakistan's former
superstar Shahid Afridi in terms of an economical bowling record in the
Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) during his side Khulna Tigers' match against
Dhaka Capitals at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.
Hasan registered a magical bowling figure which read 4-1-5-2, a performance
that led his side to a six-wicket victory and also propelled them to the BPL
playoffs.
It's though not the most economical bowling record in the BPL but if the stat
of fulfilling the bowling quota is taken into consideration, it's the record
that only Shahid Afridi and Hasan now shared. Pacer Nahidul Islam also shared
this record but he actually took three wickets for five runs after his four
overs bowling quota.
Afridi took two wickets for five runs against Barisal Bulls when he played
for Sylhet Superstars in 2015 season. And in the 2022 season, Nahidul Islam
took three wickets for five against Barishal, playing for Cumilla Victorians.
Pacer Mohammad Shoriful Islam also registered a magical bowling figure in
this BPL. He claimed four wickets for five runs against Sylhet Strikers but
Shoriful bowled 3.2 overs, meaning he didn't fulfill his quota.
Shoriful finished his bowling spell the previous day at an economy rate of
1.50. Hasan Mahmud, Afridi and Nahid bowled the entire spell at an economy
rate of 1.25.
But overall the most economical bowling record is held by left-arm spinner
Arafat Sunny who snared three wickets without conceding any runs after
bowling 2.4 overs. The spinner had this incredible spell against Khulna
Tigers in the 2016 season for Rangpur Riders.
