COLOMBO, May 15, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - At least 16 Sri Lankan mercenaries have been killed while fighting in the war between Russia and Ukraine, the island's deputy defence minister said Wednesday.

"We have confirmed information about 16 who have been killed," Pramitha Tennakoon told reporters in Colombo, adding that at least 288 retired soldiers had been recruited for the conflict.
