KYIV, Ukraine, Aug 24, 2024 (BSS/AFP) - President Volodymyr Zelensky said
Saturday that Russia wanted to "destroy" Ukraine but war has "returned to its
home", in a Ukrainian Independence Day video address that he said was
recorded in the border area from where Kyiv launched its surprise incursion
into Russia.
Zelensky said Ukraine "surprises once again" and vowed Russia will "know what
retribution is". By launching its 2022 invasion, he said "Russia was seeking
one thing: to destroy us. Instead, today we celebrate the 33rd Independence
Day of Ukraine. And what the enemy brought to our land has now returned to
his home."
