SANGSAD BHABAN, Aug 27, 2026 (BSS) - The Jatiya Sangsad has unanimously adopted a condolence motion over the deaths of former Acting President, Speaker, minister and parliament member Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar and other former parliament members.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, moved the condolence motion on the first working day of the third session of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad today.
Those over whose deaths the condolence motion was adopted are: Md Rustam Ali Molla, former parliament member (BNP); Farid Uddin Chowdhury, former parliament member (Jamaat-e-Islami); Advocate Harun Al Rashid, former Chief Whip, state minister and parliament member (BNP); Mosharraf Hossain Mia, former parliament member (JSD); Selima Ahmad, former parliament member (Awami League); Sharfuddin Khasru, former parliament member (Jatiya Party/BNP); Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, state minister and former parliament member (Awami League); Golam Sarwar Hiru, former parliament member (Islami Oikya Jote); Bir Muktijoddha Satish Chandra Roy, former minister and parliament member (Awami League); Muhammad Rafiqul Islam, former parliament member (Awami League); Major General (retd) Mahabbat Jan Chowdhury, former parliament member and minister; Abu Sadat Mohammad Abu Saeed, former parliament member (Jamaat); Maulana Abdul Aziz (Jamaat); and former state minister Fazlur Rahman (BNP).
Besides, the Jatiya Sangsad expressed profound grief and sorrow at the deaths of Ekushey Padak-winning poet Al Mujahidi, Ekushey Padak-winning artist Mustafa Monwar, noted political thinker, writer and researcher, academic Professor Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque, and eminent academic Dr Mokbul Hossain.
The Jatiya Sangsad also expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the sudden floods and landslides in Nepal and prayed for the salvation of the departed souls and conveyed sincere sympathy to the bereaved family members.

As a mark of respect to the deceased, members of parliament stood for one minute in silence and a munajat was offered seeking peace for their departed souls. Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Houssain (Kaikobad) conducted the munajat.
